Yes, there are more of us and yes, we are living longer. The consumption figures are misleading because, no surprise they go up with the number of people. Not apparent is that per 1,000 people consumption is not increasing. With more people, we cannot afford to wasteful and are become more efficient at energy and resource use. Overpopulation is an ecological term that when there are insufficient resources, the population will decline. Clearly with our growing world population, resources have not run out. The big resources are water and organic carbon (carbohydrates). These are cyclical instead of limited so it is only a matter of responsible management. Fortunately there's plenty of energy as sunlight for a burgeoning world population.
