Great questions Whenever plants drawdown carbon dioxide and manufacture carbohydrates (photosynthesis) about a third is pushed out of roots to build soil. Grasses are the best pushing one half of what they make to soil, as much as an inch a year. Four inches of soil can swell to hold 7 inches of rain water, slowing water from damaging homes during deluges and holding it for draughts. With more water in the ground, plants may grow more. When one walks on the grass or cuts it or munches on it, the grass is stimulated to repair, grow, draw down more carbon and store it in soil People can help by regenerating degraded soils or putting out raised beds or potted plants above
