Those of us like you who once played with others of mixed abilities are fortunate. During the 1980s parents took away free play time from children. Replaced with instructions and much supervision. These children became trophies with parents bragging about proficiencies and accomplishments. Lost were the social values of play. Learning to get up when knocked down and to brush it off for the fun of play. Learning how to recognize needs, negotiate and make adjustments so the play could go on. Our societies are less inclusive and cooperative when we did not play as children. People are less happy today, not knowing what they had missed out on when young. Schools and communities should provide an hour of unstructured play at a young age for more humane and civil future generations of adults.
